Three get 20 years in jail for raping widow inside car in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Sundargarh: The Court of District and Sessions Judge here today sentenced three men to 20 years of imprisonment for raping a widow in a car in 2015.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the convicts, identified as Sonu Soi, Indru Kerketa, and Pravin Barla. In the case of non-payment of the fine amount, they will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two months.

According to reports, the victim was returning home from her relative’s house on November 29, 2015 in Rajgangpur area, during which the three offered her a lift in their car.

As she got into the car, the trio gang-raped her inside the moving vehicle. Later, they dumped her on roadside near her house.

Statements of as many as 21 persons were examined during the trial.
