Three get lifer for kidnapping two youths in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court today awarded life imprisonment to three persons after convicting them for kidnapping two youths in Kaliapada ghati under Tikiri police limits of the district in 2014.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashis Kumar Tripathy awarded life sentence to Ugrasen Bag, Umesh Bag and Padman Bag and reserved his order against other two accused, Nitu Hial and Dinesh Kadia who are still at large.

While the two youths, Rajesh Kumar Sahu and Chhabi Narayan Sahu of Tikiri were returning home from Narayanpatna in a car on August 10, 2014, they were waylaid by five persons in another vehicle in Kaliapada ghati. Later the duo were kidnapped by the five persons and kept hostage at a forest in Muniguda.

The kidnappers demanded Rs 5 lakh to release the two youths. Also, they asked the abductees to call up their families and get the ransom money.

In the meantime, father of Rajesh, one of the abductees, registered a complaint at Tikiri police station. Fearing police action, the kidnappers later released Rajesh and Chhabi.

Reportedly, three of the five kidnappers were known to the Rajesh due to which police managed to nab Ugrasen, Umesh and Padman. Two other accused in the case are still absconding.
