Three held for illegal collection of parking fee in Odisha capital
Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police arrested three persons on charges of collecting parking fee illegally near Khandagiri hills here in the city since a long time.
The accused persons have been identified as Rajesh Panda (33), Rohit Panda (23) and Bharat Nayak (27) of Old Bhubaneswar area.
The Khandagiri police seized 16 duplicate receipt books and Rs 3,300 cash from possession of the accused persons.
Police sources said that the trio carrying receipt books with logos of BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) and BDA (Bhubaneswar Development Authority) was allegedly collecting parking fee from the tourists. They were charging Rs 10 per two-wheeler and Rs 30 per car for parking on the road.
The collection of parking fee in illegal manner came to fore after Khandagiri Police Station IIC Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra made a query about the trio as to they were authorised by the BMC to collect parking fee in the area.
Following reply from the BMC authorities in this regard, he arrested three youth for illegal collection of parking fee.
