Three held for ONGC exam paper leak bid

New Delhi, June 22 :

Three people, among them the vice principal of a school, were arrested for attempting to leak the question paper of a graduation-level examination conducted by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the post of trainees, police said Sunday.

The anti-snatching cell (Crime Branch) of Delhi Police arrested Somnath Gupta, Tarun and Ashutosh from near a school in west Delhi where they had gathered for the deal to leak papers of the ONGC examination that was scheduled to be conducted Sunday.

“Gupta, the vice principal of one of the schools where the question papers were kept for the examination, was held in a car with the other two when the deal was being finalised,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav.

“A set of original question papers as well as photocopy of the set have been recovered from the accused,” said Yadav.

The police got the tip-off Saturday that Gupta and another person, Tarun, are planning to leak the question papers of the examination.

The third accused, Ashutosh had come to buy the question papers as per the deal.

“Ashutosh approached Tarun, who runs an institute for competitive examination, for arranging the question paper for one of his acquaintances. Tarun then approached Gupta. The deal was fixed for Rs.50,000 in advance for arranging the question paper,” said the official.

The ONGC had organised the examination for 842 posts of Class I executives.

“This year, to avoid any delay in commencement of the examination, the organisers decided to deliver the question papers in advance to respective centres. Consequently the question papers were delivered to examination centres in advance Saturday evening,” said the official.
