Earlier this morning, one person was injured in big cat attack as it had strayed into a village in ward no. 12 in the town. The injured–Hari Murmu—was admitted to Udala community health chentre (CHC) for treatment.

After the early morning leopard attack, panic gripped the sub-divisional headquarters town. Later in the day, the wild animal attacked two more persons and inured them. They were identified as Kusha Behera and Ranjan Bindhani.

The duo was also admitted to the Udala health facility for treatment.

The local forest officials rushed to the area and have intensified their efforts to capture the leopard.

The officials suspect that the leopard strayed into the human habitation from Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR).

While the officials have encircled the area to nab the leopard, they have appealed to the people in the area not to pelt stones nor do any such activity which would irritate it and make it violent.

We are trying our best to bring the leopard into our clutches before it injures the villagers. We are trying to tranquilise the leopard, a forest official said.
