Bhubaneswar: Three people have been killed and six districts were affected in unseasonal rain in Odisha so far, informed the Deputy Relief Commissioner here today.

While two casualties were reported after tree branches fell on them in Balasore and Bargarh districts during rain, another person was killed in wall collapse in Mayurbhanj district, said Deputy Relief Commissioner Prabhat Ranjan Mohapatra.

The government received preliminary reports from six districts -- Bargarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Sonepur and Mayurbhanj -- so far.

Major damages to crops have been reported in Bijepur, Barpali, Atabira and Bhatli area of Bargarh district.

The government has provided compensation amount of Rs 5,31,200 to the families for construction of houses in Mayurbhanj district. Other districts have been asked to submit the reports on major damages due to unseasonal rain.

According to preliminary reports, total 456 people have died due to lightning till March 31, 2018. The kin of these victims will be given a compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh each.
