Three youths died on the spot and two others were seriously injured in a road mishap after the car in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree between Dugbahal and Telmahul village on Padmapur-Bijepur road this evening.

The deceased have been identified as Balaram Sethi, Mahendra Khatua and Ananta Behera. The injured identified as Abhijit Das and Maina have been admitted to the Sub Divisional headquarters hospital at Padmapur in serious condition.

Reports said Abhijit hailed from Jagamara area of Bhubaneswar while Maina was from Cuttack.

Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that the youths hailed from Bhubaneswar and were returning after having a picnic at Nrusinghanath when the accident took place at around 7 PM.

“The exact area in Bhubaneswar to which these youths belong to will be known after detail investigation,” informed Lalita Lakra, OIC Melchhamunda police station.

According to reports, Balaram Sethi, Mahendra Khatua, Ananta Behera, Abhijit Das and Maina had visited Nrusinghanath shrine in a car bearing registration no.OD02AA3618 for a picnic. While they were returning from Nrusinghanath their car hit a tree on the roadside after losing balance in a place between Dugbahal and Telmahul village on Padmapur-Bijepur road this evening around 7 PM.

On being informed about the accident Melchhamunda police rushed to the spot and with help of locals rescued the injured and retrieved the bodies of the dead from ill-fated vehicle.
