Three police personnel suspended for taking bribe in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Three police personnel were suspended on charges of taking Rs 20,000 bribe to withdraw case against a timber smuggler in Jujumara of Sambalpur district today.

Apart from putting the three police personnel under suspension, Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh also transferred Lokanath Sahoo, IIC of the Jujumara police station to the District Headquarters. The suspended police personnel are Haviladar Biranchi Behera, Driver Jagannath Jena and Constable Prashant Pradhan.

Based on a report on the bribery case published by ‘Sambad’ on Saturday, the Sambalpur SP had ordered an inquiry. As per the reports, police took Rs 20,000 bribe from Dileswara Dutiachand of Bagadafa village under Jujumara police station area to withdraw a case against him.

A committee led by Additional SP PK Mohapatra investigated the matter and submitted the report on Sunday.
