Three residents of Bihar held for duping Odisha man of Rs 40.5 lakh

Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Cell of Crime Branch today arrested three persons from Bihar on charges of defrauding a resident of Bhuban of Rs 40.5 lakh on the promise of providing him a petrol pump dealership.

The accused were produced before the Bhuban JMFC court where their bail plea was rejected. Also, the court sent the arrested persons on a four-day police remand to elicit further details.

The accused were Akash Kumar from Gangapur village, Shubham Priyadarshi from Sijua village and Kaislendra Kumar from Chakuai village.

The complainant, Om Prakash Mishra of Bhuban had given his email id, mobile number and other details on Reliance Ltd website to bag a petrol pump dealership last year. Four persons identifying themselves as staff of the company contacted Mishra over money and asked him to deposit money in installments in a particular bank account number.

After depositing Rs 40.5 lakh in the bank account number given by the four persons, Mishra called up them on the mobile number from which he used to receive calls. But the mobile number was found to be switched off when Mishra called up. Suspecting fraud, he lodged a complaint at Cuttack Cyber police station of Crime Branch.

The Crime Branch investigated the matter after registering a case and arrested the accused.
