Thunder squall likely to bring respite amid heat wave in Odisha

While the Meteorological Department has predicted that heat wave conditions would prevail in Odisha, thunder squall in some parts of the state is likely to bring respite for those reeling under the scorching summer.

Heat wave condition likely to prevail over some parts of the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sonepur and Kalahandi, a bulletin of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.

However, it also predicted thunder squall accompanied with hail/rain over one or two places of several districts.

Thunder squall accompanied with hail/rain and wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Gajapati, Koraput, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Cuttack and Khordha, the release added.

Strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast for which fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
