Thunderstorm alert for 6 Odisha districts ahead of Cyclone ‘FANI’

Bhubaneswar: With the Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘FANI’ about 650 km away from southwest of Puri according to the Met Department, the impact of the storm prior to landall is already showing its effect.

Moderate thunderstorm and lightning alert has been issued for Bolangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nowrangpur and Nuapada today.

Light rainfall and wind gusting at 40 kmph is also likely in these areas according to the latest weather bulletin.

The Regional Met Centre has predicted that such weather conditions are likely to prevail between 4 pm and 8 pm today.

As per the forecast by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the United States Navy, Cyclonic Storm FANI would cross near Balukhanda in Puri on May 3 afternoon. The wind speed before landfall would be about 175 kmph and pass through Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack (Niali), Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts before going to West Bengal.
