According to sources, the tiger killed a baby tusker around 200 meters away from the Kathakata forest beat house. The calf is said to have strayed from the herd and lost contact with the group. Finding the baby elephant alone in the forest, the carnivore attacked and killed the pachyderm on the spot.

Forest officials found the carcass of the baby elephant on Wednesday morning and informed the officials about the incident.

Anandpur DFO, Sangram Keshari Behera visited the spot on Wednesday afternoon for an on-the-spot investigation.

“The elephant calf was around 3-4 months old. As the tiger is likely to come near the dead elephant again, post-mortem will be done on Thursday,” DFO, Sangram Keshari Behera said.
