Tirtol MLA Bijaya Shankar Das runs sex racket, alleges girlfriend Somalika

Jagatsinghpur: Tirtol MLA Bijaya Shankar Das has landed in a major controversy as his girlfriend and wife-to-be Somalika Das accused him of running a sex racket.

On the basis of a written complaint lodged by her in this regard, the Jagatsinghpur police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and started an investigation.

She has alleged that the legislator engaged innocent girls in the illegal activity. The money collected through the sex racket was used by the MLA for election-related expenses, she said.

The complainant has mentioned the names of six persons, including Bijaya Shankar Das, in her complaint.

She has further alleged that the MLA scolded and threatened lawyers.

On the other hand, Bijaya Shankar refused to comment on the matter saying that he hasn’t cheated anyone.

The dispute between Bijaya Shankar and Somalika took a new turn on June 17 as she accused him of not turning up for marriage at the court on that day.

After waiting for Bijaya Shankar at the court here for several hours, Somalika returned home as he didn’t arrive.

“We had applied for marriage registration at the office of the sub-registrar on May 17. He had promised me to come today for the marriage. However, he didn’t keep his promise,” said Somalika.

“His family members have been threatening me while his elder brother has misbehaved with me. On the other hand, Bijaya Shankar is not responding to my phone calls,” she said.

He is either cheating me or having an affair with someone, she added.

However, the MLA refuted the allegations. “As per norms, the marriage registration needs to be completed within 90 days of applying for it. We still have 60 days left for marriage registration. I haven’t received any information from anyone regarding registration of marriage today,” he said.

Worth mentioning, photos of intimate moments between the two had gone viral on social media during the panchayat elections, this year. After the incident, Somalika had met Jagatsinghpur SP in the first week of May and filed a written complaint alleging that Bijaya Shankar cheated her.

Later, the matter was resolved amicably after discussion between the family members of the two. The duo had then applied for marriage registration at the office of the sub-registrar here.
