Titlagarh in Odisha is the hottest place in India on Sunday

Western Odisha town of Titlagarh today recorded the highest temperature in the country with 44.4 degree Celsius.

As per private weather forecaster Skymet, Titlagarh remained the hottest place in India at 44.4 degree Celsius followed by Chandrapur in Maharashtra equaling Titlagarh.

Heatwave conditions have tightened its grip over parts of India, with mercury soaring new levels. Majority parts of the country continued to witness day maximums above 42°C. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra continue to be worst affected. Moreover, no relief is expected from the scorching weather in the coming days as well, the forecaster said.

Yesterday, Bolangir remained the hottest place in the country with 44.2 degree Celsius.

Earlier in the day, Bhubaneswar MeT office released a bulletin in which it said thunder squall accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur districts.

The meteorological centre here said in a bulletin that 11 stations recorded above 40 degree Celsius today. As per the bulletin, Sundargarh recorded the highest day temperature with 42.5 degree Celsius. The other stations which recorded above 40 degree Celsius are: Angul (41.7), Jharsuguda (41.8), Sambalpur (41.2), Hirakud (41.1), Talcher (40.6), Bhawanipatna (40.2), Bolangir (41.4), Titlagarh (40.6), Malkangiri (41) and Sonepur (40.2).
