Tooth extraction goes wrong as man treated by quack’s wife dies due to excessive bleeding in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Sources say one Rabindra Nath Biswas, who posed himself as doctor, was running a clinic without any licensed certificate in Kalimela Bazaar since many years.

Kalimela: A tooth extraction session cost a man his life as he succumbed to excessive bleeding after being treated by a quack’s wife in Kalimela block of Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Tapan Pal, a local businessman.

Sources say one Rabindra Nath Biswas, who posed himself as doctor, was running a clinic without any licensed certificate in Kalimela Bazaar since many years.

On Friday, Tapan visited the clinic as he was having dental problem for a while and wanted to get a tooth extracted. When he arrived, quack Rabindra’s wife Basanti said he was not at home and went on to check Tapan’s condition. She reportedly then performed the tooth extraction but the procedure went wrong resulting in injury to the patient. As Tapan’s condition got worse, he was immediately rushed to Kalimela hospital where he succumbed due to excessive bleeding. Family members attributed Tapan’s death to wrongful treatment. “My uncle had diabetes and BP which is why his condition got critical after he started bleeding heavily during the tooth removal. The quack’s irresponsible treatment led to his death,” claimed nephew Ashish Pal.

Meanwhile the deceased’s son filed a police complaint. Police has registered a case and started an investigation where it was learnt that the quack’s wife has been absconding soon after the incident.  Kalimela IIC informed that efforts are on to track down the accused who’s on the run.

The incident has sparked anger among locals as the quack has been running an illegal clinic right under the nose of the district administration without any action taken against him.
