Tragic! 7 people from West Bengal killed in road mishap in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: In a tragic road mishap, at least seven people from West Bengal were killed after a chicken-laden mini-truck carrying them hit a stationary truck at Neulpur on the National Highway-16 in Jajpur district this morning.

According to reports, an Eicher truck loaded with chickens en route from Kolkata to Bhubaneswar crashed into a damaged truck parked at Neulpur area on the NH-16 due to fog in the wee hours today.

While six occupants of goods vehicle died on the spot, one injured person was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he succumbed.

All the deceased persons were from 24 Parganas area of West Bengal.

On receiving information, the fire services personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were sent to the Barchana Community Health Centre in Jajpur district.

Local sources said that two trucks were burnt following a collision at Neulpur on the NH-16 four days ago. Since then one of the damaged trucks was parked on roadside. The chicken-laden mini-truck rammed into that stationary truck today morning.

“At least four accidents have occurred on this road in the past one month. Four days ago, there was an accident here but the road was not cleared till today. The mishap took place due to uncleared road,” said a local demanding a bypass road connecting to several villages in Jajpur district.
