Tragic! Five killed in SUV-truck collision in Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: In a tragic incident, at least five persons were killed and another five persons were injured in a road mishap here in the district today.

The deceased persons were identified as Asish Pandia, Pramod Pandia, Siddhi Pandia, Trayambak Meher and Subham Pandia – all are from Nimna village under Ullunda Block in Sonepur district.

According to reports, as many as 10 persons from Nimna village were returning on a SUV after attending a marriage ceremony at Kaudiamunda village late on Friday night.

At around 1 am, the SUV carrying them hit a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction on the Mahanadi bridge, source said.

While five persons were killed on the spot, five others trapped inside the vehicle were rescued by police with help of gas cutters.

All the injured persons were initially rushed to the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital. Later, they were shifted to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for treatment.
