Train tragedy in Odisha’s Balasore: Death toll reaches 288, 56 more critical

Bhubaneswar: Total number of deaths in the tragic train accident that took place on Friday evening near Bahanaga Bazaar railway station in Balasore district of Odisha spiked to 288 today, making it the most disastrous train accident in the State.

According to official sources, the total casualty is 1,091 including the deaths, of which 56 are critical and 747 have sustained simple injuries in the fatal mishap.

Besides, 495 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. A maximum of 186 passengers have been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack, followed by a government-run health facility in Soro (144), Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital (FMMCH) in Balasore (97). Similarly, seven passengers were admitted to different private hospitals in Bhubaneswar, and 35 others were admitted to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH).

It is pertinent to mention here that a rescue operation was completed a few hours ago at the derailment site and restoration work commenced, earlier informed the South Eastern Railway.

Condolence messages are pouring in from across the globe over such a massive loss of lives in the horrific train accident in Odisha.

Social media was flooded with condolences by many world leaders and Bollywood actors, including cricketers.
