Training programme for PRI members of Sukinda

Sukinda: Tata Steel’s Sukinda Chromite Mine organized a three-day training programme for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) members of Sukinda Block of Jajpur district at the Gandhi Labour Foundation (GLF) in Puri, one of the premier institutions in the state engaged in studies, research and training on labour welfare and management of social issues.

Nineteen PRI members from nine Panchayats like Kaliapani, Bandhgaon, Maruabil, Kansa, etc. under Sukinda block participated in the programme. Nirakar Beuria, Resource person of Panchayat Raj Action Group (PRAG), noted social worker Anima Mishra and some other faculties of GLF conducted the workshop.

In the training programme there were deliberations on roles and responsibilities of PRI members, environmental safety, the role of PRIs in sustainable industrialization of the state, characteristics of Adarsh Panchayats, etc. The PRIs were encouraged to develop long-term development plans and implementation strategies for their respective Panchayats.

Commending Tata Steel for the initiative, one of the participants of the programme, Kalpna Jena, Sarpanch of Kaliapani Panchayat mentioned that such programmes help widen our view of the world and that believed it would guide everyone in understanding people’s issues better and address those more effectively.

Addressing the participants in the opening session on various issues they are facing in the area, Ambika Nanda, Head, Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel, Odisha said the company will continue to contribute its bit in helping the elected representatives to equip themselves to work for the betterment of the society.

The idea behind the initiative is to improve public welfare, create awareness among the newly elected grassroots leaders on their roles and responsibilities and empower them on how best to serve the community. The event concluded on Saturday in Puri.
