Bhubaneswar: In an initiative by Odisha Government to transform women SHGs to SMEs under Mission Shakti, as many as 40 women were provided training on Odia Bridal Makeup Course for self-employment.

The women trainees successfully completed 30-day Odia Bridal Makeup Course offered by World Skill Centre.

After completion of course, the SHG members from across the state attended the felicitation ceremony held yesterday.

“We are working on the vision ‘SHG to SME’ to transform women into entrepreneurs. For this purpose, they need a high-class training. Therefore we offered a 30-day Odia Bridal Make up course in association with World Skill Centre. The course will be introduced in all the SHGs in every block in cooperation with the World Skill Centre and Skill Development Department with a focus to impart market-related training on beauty, bakery, agri-entrepreneurship and hotel management that will generate self employment. The women participants here are feeling very happy and empowered,” said Sujata Karthikeyan, Commissioner-Cum-Secretary, Mission Shakti Department.

“Total, 40 SHG women were imparted training on Odia bridal make up course in partnership with Skilled in Odisha and Mission Shakti. They not only took the life changing course for themselves, but also for self employment in salon and parlour. They were taught some basics and advanced course during the 1-month programme. This is a unique training programme for World Skill Centre. Now, we are providing one-year training course in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and mechatronics. But, for the first time, it was a unique situation for us to give training to 40 SHG women nominated by the Mission Shakti,” said Alka Arora Mishra, CEO, World Skill Centre, Bhubaneswar.

“On behalf of Mission Shakti, we were enrolled into the course on beauty and wellness. This was an one-month training programme. This was a short programme, but could be beneficial for all. The SHG members, who were spending their time in making of badi (nuggets), achar (pickles) and papad at home, could be benefitted through this programme. It’s a course to make them smarter,” said Rajeswari Sahoo, WSHG Member, Kalahandi.

“We learnt make up, threading, facial and business management during this 30-day course. This was an amazing experience,” said Rinmayee Sahoo, Maa Tarini WSHG, Bhadrak.

“We had never thought of becoming beauticians. It was a dream that came true. I want to inspire all members in my SHG to become self employed. We had seen ramp show in films, but here this became a reality for us,” said Khyanaprabha Pattnaik, Jhadeswari WSHG, Khordha.
