Transgender suicide case: Lover arrested in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Odisha police arrested a youth in connection with suicide case of transgender Priya here on Wednesday.

The accused was identified as Bhawani Shankar Sahoo, a boyfriend of transgender Priya, who committed suicide at Ganapati Nagar slum under Nayapalli police limits on Monday.

He was arrested on basis of complaint lodged by the transgender association president Menaka.

According to reports, Priya and Bhawani were in live-in relationship since a long time at Ganapati Nagar slum. The unmarried couple went through bitter phase after Priya started suspecting Bhawani. Even they had quarrel over the issue many times.

Priya took extreme step following a heated argument over a message sent by a woman on Bhawani’s WhatsApp on Sunday night. She was found hung by veil on Monday while beau had gone outside for lunch.

Bhawani was detained by police for interrogation in connection with the case.
