Tribal girl from Maoist-hit Malkangiri clears Odisha Civil Services Exam

Bhubaneswar: A tribal girl from Maoist-dominated Malkangiri district cleared the Odisha Civil Services Examination-2017.

Sandhya Samarath, daughter of Ramdev Samarath of Salimi village under Mathili block in Malkangiri district, was ranked 91st in the civil service examination.

An alumna of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Malkangiri, Sandhya pursued PG at the Ravenshaw University after her graduation from the BJB Autonomous College. Later, she was enrolled in M.Phil and P.hD courses at the State’s premier varsity.

She achieved the highest feat in her career by clearing the toughest examination through hard work without attending any coaching class.

With her success, the entire village in Malkangiri district celebrated for Sandhya, who will be appointed to various posts under Odisha Civil Services.

The results were announced by the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) yesterday.

According to a notification, the Commission provisionally selected 106 candidates on the basis of the Personality Test of Odisha Civil Services Examination-2017 held from December 3 to 10.

Out of 106 successful candidates, 42 were women, 21 under Scheduled Castes category, 21 under Scheduled Tribes category and 13 under SEBC category.

This year, the women have outshone the men candidates in the Odisha Civil Services Examination by securing top three ranks.

While Ayushi Mahapatra emerged as the topper, Sanjita Mohapatra and Poonam Mahapatra were ranked as the second and third in the list.
