Triple murder in Odisha capital; property dispute suspected

Panic gripped Bharatpur area in the Odisha capital following the brutal murder of three persons, including two women, this afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Chakradhar Sahu alias Kalia, his wife Sukanti and another woman named Shati Pati. All of them were above 50 years of age, commissionerate police said.

A sharp weapon was used in the murder, but it was still to be traced, police said.

“When we reached the spot, we found Chakradhara lying dead outside his house in  Lane 4 of the Bharatpur basti. We recovered the body of Sukanti and Shanti from their respective houses, ” said a member of the investigating team which rushed to the place on getting information about the sensational triple murder.

The three bodies have been sent ot the Capital Hospital for autopsy, he added.

Twin city police commissioner RP Sharma and Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi supervised the preliminary investigation. Also present at the place of the murder was Aseem Panda, IIC of Khandagiri  police station.

Thpugh the motive behind the murder still remains to be ascertained, initial investigation suggests it could be a dispute over property,

Sukanti’s brother Bijay Kumar Sahu, who reached the spot after getting information, pointed an accusing finger at Shanti’s grandson Bhabani Pati, who is married to Chakradhar’s daughter.

“Bhabani used to visit the house frequently and used to indulge in fight asking my brother-in-law for money and forcing him to register a piece of land in his name. Bhabani is said to be absconding; he might have killed the three,” said Bijay.
