Truck runs over marriage procession in Odisha killing three persons

Malkangiri: In a horrific incident, a speeding truck ran over a marriage procession killing three persons and injuring three others in Malkangiri district today.

At around 6 PM, a marriage procession was passing through a stretch of the NH-326. A truck came from behind and mowed down participants of the wedding procession near Pandiripani. The bridegroom’s father and local sarpanch, Shiba Khemundi was among the three persons killed on the spot.

The three others who sustained critical injuries in the mishap were rushed to the Pandripani hospital. They were later shifted to the Malkangiri District Hospital and their condition is still critical. As per latest reports, one of the injured died while undergoing treatment.

The incident incited tension among locals who caught hold of the truck driver. The locals alleged the driver was in an inebriated condition due to which the mishap occurred.

An eyewitness said when the marriage procession was going on near Pandiripani, the speeding truck laden with rice came from behind and ran over the marriage procession. Following the mishap, participants of the wedding procession cried for help and locals immediately came to their rescue. Some agitated locals thrashed the driver.
