Koida: An ailing tusker succumbed today morning while receiving medical treatment near Rangeiguda village in Khesra forest under Banki range and K Balang police limits in Sundargarh district.
According to an official source, the pachyderm was initially seen roaming in Koida forest range. Later, the tusker fell sick a few days ago and entered into Banki range. After being noticed by some forest personnel, a team was taking care of the adult elephant. However, the adult jumbo had stopped responding to medical treatment for the last couple of days and succumbed in the morning.
It is pertinent to mention, the decomposed carcass of a tusker was previously spotted by some locals at Baliama foothill and near a road connecting Sarada under Jamankira range of Bamra forest division in Sambalpur district, on February 21, 2024. The elephant was around eight years of age.
