The town’s residents heaved a sigh of relief when Forest department officials succeeded in driving the tusker out of town.

The tusker is suspected to have strayed into the district headquarters town after crossing the Budhabalang River.

“I first saw its tusks. Those were huge. I was scared and watched it from its hind but luckily it left the place without harming me,” said an eyewitness.

“I saw it coming from that side. I was pretty scared. With no option left, I prayed and did a namaskar. It left the place and moved to that side leaving me unharmed,” said a woman who had seen the elephant.
