Twin City Police arrest one more person from Bihar in fake drugs racket in Odisha

The accused, identified as Bikas Kumar (33) of Nayatullah in Patna district of Bihar, was arrested basing on the case registered with Puri Ghat police regarding distribution and sale of spurious medicines. 

Cuttack: In yet another clampdown, Commissionerate Police has arrested one more person for his alleged involvement in circulation of fake blood pressure drugs in Cuttack district of Odisha, taking the total number of arrests to seven in this racket. The accused, identified as Bikas Kumar (33) of Nayatullah in Patna district of Bihar, was arrested basing on the case registered with Puri Ghat police regarding distribution and sale of spurious medicines.

Official sources said after the fake drugs case was registered, Puri Ghat police had formed a team to carry on the investigation outside the State to trace the main source of the racket. They managed to track Bikas who reportedly was a key member and used to supply  the spurious drugs to dealers and distributors here.

“Bikas was in the fake drugs business. We nabbed him in Bihar basing on the statements of other accused members who have been arrested. He was produced in SDJM court there on December 6 and brought on transit remand here on Wednesday. He will be produced in court today. We will request for a three-day police remand and interrogate him to unravel activities of others who are involved in this racket,” Additional DCP Anil Mishra told mediapersons.

Earlier, police had arrested six persons including owners of the two retail outlets Sanjay Jalan and Rahul Kayal in this connection.
