Twin City police enters social media; gets good response on Day 1

Commisonerate police have received an encouraging response to their entry into social media. Within hours of going social, the Commissionerate police social media account received as many as 88 likes on Facebook and spawned 37 followers on its Twitter account from the public as well as members of the city police.

Earlier in the day, Commissionerate police entered the social media and invited suggestions, comments and observations from the denizens of the Twin City as part of its efforts to connect directly and more effectively with the people.

A Facebook and Twitter page has been opened saying Commissionerate Police (Cuttack-Bhubaneswar) will remain committed to maintenance of law & order, prevention & detection of crime and promotion of communal/ societal harmony.

Citizens can now enter their suggestions directly as well as share and get added to anybody’s account if they know them by logging on to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr R P Sharma informed that the department wants people to use texts, tweets or Facebook when they need help or when they see any violation of law and order or in case of any emergencies.

Dr Sharma said, “We have gone online to make it possible for people to use social media to contact police and to watch how our plan could be put in place.”

"We want to give people the opportunity to make inquiries through the web, texting and using social media so we can communicate more effectively with the community," said Dr Sharma, adding, the department can get good response if it ensures that police respond positively and adequately to the requests of citizens.

Gracing the foundation day of Commissionerate police as Chief Guest here, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today formally linked the website of the Commissionerate Police with the social media sites.
