Odisha: Two college students drown in Mahanadi; Girl jumps into Baitarani

Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, two college students drowned in Mahanadi river in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district while taking bath, today.

The deceased were identified as Rajeev Lochan Sahu (19) and Ganeswar Sahoo (18) of Pathuria village under Kujang police limits in the district.

According to reports, the two boys were bathing in the river when Rajeev slipped into deep water and drowned. His friend Ganeswar tried to save him but met the same fate during the attempt.

Though locals rescued the two and rushed them to the Kujang Hospital, doctors declared the duo dead.

In another incident, a girl student went missing after jumping into Baitarani river from a bridge connecting Chandbali and Rajkanika.

The girl reportedly parked her bicycle on the bridge and jumped into the water body.

On being informed, Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation to trace the girl.
