Neighbours said a father and son died on the spot while the mother sustained critical injuries as an LPG cylinder exploded in their residence at Sabar Sahi in Siripur area of the capital city. The injured woman has been rushed to a hospital, they added.

The injured woman was rushed to the SCB Medical and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated at the Capital hospital here, where she had been initially admitted, hospital sources said.

According to the sources, the deceased and the injured woman, who are yet to be identified, had come to one Mayina Dalabehera’s house located at Sabar Sahi for a visit today.

As Mayina sought to light the gas stove to prepare tea for them, she realised that the gas cylinder was empty. She then changed the cylinder but found that gas was leaking from the cylinder. She came out of the house and called a neighbour to sort out the problem, but by then the cylinder had exploded and the fire had engulfed the house.

Fire brigade officials said they were able to save the woman, who has received severe burn injuries. But her husband and child were found dead on the spot.

Properties worth more than one lakhs rupees have been destroyed in the fire, a fire brigade official said.

Mayina is a tenant in the house where the mishap occurred, which belongs to Amaya Sahu.
