Two more farmers in Odisha commit suicide, third battling for life

Two more farmers have reportedly committed suicide in Odisha, while another is battling for life.

Farmer hospitalized after suicide attempt

Bir Majhi of Bhanpur village under Dharamgarh block in Kalahandi has allegedly committed suicide on Saturday by hanging himself from a rope in his field. He was neck deep in debt and after crop failure committed gave up his life .

While, in Bolangir district a farmer Anand Patel of Hardatal Padia village has allegedly attempted suicide in his field by consuming poison on Saturday after which he was rushed to the Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he has been shifted to Burla-based VSS Medical College and Hospital today where he is fighting for his life.

Earlier there were reports of a farmer death, Sashi Oram, a resident of Dungiripada in Badabahal village located in Kolabira block of Jharsuguda district  had committed suicide yesterday distressed by heavy loans and crop loss.

The farmer’s paddy crop in three acres of land was ruined because of poor rainfall. He had taken loan of Rs 40,000 from Kolabira cooperative society and was under stress due to repeated crop loss.

He had gone to his field yesterday morning and after coming home in afternoon killed himself by hanging from his towel.
