Ganjam: Two youths were arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a seven-year-old girl after she opposed a gangrape bid in Odisha’s Ganjam district. Berhampur Additional SP Trinath Patel told media persons the two accused kidnapped the minor girl in front of her aunt’s house in Sorala village under Golanthara police limits on Thursday morning.
They then tried to gangrape the minor girl at an isolated place. When she opposed the rape bid, the two accused attacked her with a broken piece of brick causing severe injuries on her head, face and ears.
Following the arrest of the two youth in the case, they were forwarded to the court today. Also, the police seized the blood stained brick from the spot.
Patel informed the police registered a case against the two accused under POCSO Act and Sections 365/366, 376 db, 307 and 341 of IPC.
As per reports, when the minor girl was playing outside her aunt’s house on Thursday, she went missing. Some villagers spotted her lying in a pool of blood at one end of the village after few hours. Suspecting the matter to be a rape case, they informed the police.
Meanwhile, the villagers found Rutu Behera and Hemant Behera from Sorala in an inebriated condition at a house. As blood was found in the house, the villagers nabbed the two youths suspecting their involvement in the attack on the girl. They beat up the Rutu and Hemant and handed them over to the police.
In a critical condition, the minor girl was admitted to the MKCG hospital in Berhampur and later shifted to the SCB hospital in Cuttack.
