Two held for looting cigarettes worth over Rs 1 crore in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Tangi Police have arrested two inter-state dacoits from New Delhi and Indore for allegedly looting cigarettes worth more than Rs one crore from a container truck in Odisha’s Khordha district.

The accused have been identified as Amit Chopra and Amit Choudhury. As many as 238 cartons of cigarettes worth around Rs 1 crore and Rs 10 lakh have been seized form their possession, sources said.

The accused had on November 4 night looted 390 cartons of cigarettes from a container truck on NH-16 at Ugratara Chhak under Tangi police limits in Khordha district. They had intercepted the vehicle, which was carrying the cigarettes from Hyderabad to Kolkata. They forcibly took the truck driver to a nearby forest at gunpoint and tied him there before committing the loot.
