Two held for kidnapping, selling child in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 30 :

A man and a woman have been arrested in the capital for kidnapping a one-year-old boy and selling him for Rs.50,000, police said Saturday.

Guljar Singh, 33, and his 37-year-old woman associate Surender Kaur, both residents of Delhi, were arrested from near the Janakpuri Metro station Aug 27.

Surender Kaur, who hails from Punjab, came in contact with property dealer Guljar Singh through a common friend.

“As Surender’s landlord couple has no child, she discussed with Guljar Singh the arrangement of a child that can be sold to her landlord,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ashok Chand.

Guljar Singh agreed to the proposal and they roped in Neetu Kaur, a tenant in the same premises and a friend of Surender, to execute their plan.

“Guljar Singh told them he had seen small children of poor families near railway stations and if they could kidnap one of the children, he or she could be sold to the childless couple,” the official said.

“They decided to carry out their plan at the Delhi Cantonment railway station,” the official added.

As per their plan, Surender and Neetu went to the Delhi Cantonment station March 1 and kidnapped a one-year-old boy. They sold the boy to their landlord for Rs.50,000, and said he was the son of Guljar Singh’s relative.

The boy, who belongs to a Rajasthan-based couple who had come to Delhi March 30, has been recovered and handed over to his parents.

Surender Kaur was found to be previously involved in many cases of kidnapping.

The other woman, Neetu Kaur, is absconding.
