Local police arrested two persons on charges of firing at a BJD leader in Odisha’s port town in May this year, police said today.

The arrested have been identified as Bheema alias Priyabrata Nayak (25) and Hanu alias Nihar Ranjan Nayak (24).

On May 29 this year, two motorcycle-borne unidentified miscreants had fired at Jyotikanta Parida alias Bapu – a BJD leader – and Ashutosh Swain alias Baba while they were talking to each other near Tarinigada here.

The injured were rushed to the Biju Memorial Hospital in Paradip and later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. For further treatment, they were again shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

“The duo has been arrested late on Sunday night. Two crude bombs and five live bullets have been seized from their possession. Several cases have been registered against them at Marshaghai and Kendrapada police stations. They were forwarded to court today,” Subhranshu Nayak said.
