Two more held for stealing idols in Odisha

Rayagada, Feb 6:

Police today arrested two more accused involved in the theft of Radha and Krishna idols from Radhakrishna temple in Odisha’s Rayagada town on June 9, 2013 and seized the Krishna idol from their possession.

Recovered Krishna Idol“The accused, identified as K Srinu and Fazurullah Khan, were arrested by the police while they were trying to sell the Krishna idol”, Rayagada SP K Siva Subramani told reporters here.

He said efforts are on to arrest the two absconding accused— D Srikant and Baccha Israel— and recover the idol of Radha from their possession.

All the accused involved in the theft are the natives of Rayagada district, he added.

Police had earlier arrested Yedegalla Siva alias Hadappa Siva and Habibullah Khan of Rayagada district in this connection. Both of them are now lodged in jail.

The accused had stolen the two 15th century-old idols made of Astadhatu (mixture of eight metals) from Radhakrishna temple from Brahmin street area of Rayagada town in the night on June 9, 2013 after breaking the door of the sanctum sanctorum.
