Two injured in firing in city

Panic gripped the capital city following a firing incident in broad daylight at Nageswar Tangi colony under the Lingaraj police station limits on Friday morning in which two persons were injured.

However, the locals caught hold of one of the accused and handed him over to the police.

The incident took place around 11 am.

According to the police, two bike-borne miscreants tried to snatch a gold chain from Jhuna Patnaik while she was strolling outside her house. When her husband Jitendriya  rushed to her rescue, one of the miscreants hit his head hard with the butt of a revolver and shot at Kartik Maharana who tried to resist the robbers.

However, the locals managed to nab one of the two miscreants and handed him over to the police. He has been forwarded to judicial custody. Both the  injured persons have been admitted to the Capital Hospital for treatment.

Sources in the police commissionerate said Kartik Maharana who suffered bullet injuries while confronting the robbers will be rewarded for his act of bravery.
