Couple, granddaughter die in wall collapse following elephant attack in Odisha

Sambalpur: Tragedy struck a family of Kolgaon village under Jujumura police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district after three of its members died after a wall of their house collapsed following  attack by an elephant last night.

The deceased have been identified as Kandha Mirdha (70), his wife Urmila Mirdha (65) and their granddaughter Rashmita (12).

According to reports, a wall of the house collapsed when the pachyderm tried to enter into last night. The trio, who were sleeping at that time, sustained critical injuries as the wall fell on them. They were rushed to the Jujumura Community Health Centre (CHC), where Urmila and Rashmita were declared dead.

Kandha, who was has been shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), later succumbed to injuries.

On being informed, Dhama forest officials reached the village and initiated  an investigation.
