Two killed, one critical as truck runs over motorcycle in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a tragic incident, two motorcyclists were killed and another critically injured when a motorcycle they were riding was run over by a container truck near Khirei Tangari on NH-49 in Keonjhar district today evening.

When the three motorcyclists were going towards Panapashi village under Jhumpura block on the motorcycle, the container truck coming from opposite direction hit them head-on near Khirei Tangari. The truck ran over two motorcyclists, Bharat Mahanta and Prafulla Chandra Lohara from Panapashi village under Jhumpura block whereas the third one, Jayakrushna Mahanta dispersed few meters away. Bharat and Prafulla died on the spot following the mishap.

However, locals rescued Jayakrushna and admitted him to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital.

Vehicular movement was affected on the route after some locals blocked the NH-49 demanding compensation for the families of the deceased. Later the normalcy returned when police officials reached the spot and pacified the agitators.

As per the latest reports, the container truck driver was detained by the police and the bodies were sent for post mortem.
