Odisha police on Friday night arrested two more persons for their alleged complicity in the Boudh lawyer’s murder on November 10, taking the number of arrested persons in the case to six.
Boudh police arrested the duo from Baramunda area in the capital city later in the evening yesterday. The have been identified as Banamali Sahoo and Kiranarba Sahoo.
They will be forwarded to court today.
Notably, four more persons were arrested by a special team of Odisha police yesterday morning from Raikia in Kandhamal district for their alleged involvement in the murder of lawyer Hemant Sahoo.
The arrested persons were– Duryodhan Sahoo, his mother Kunti Sahoo, Uma Sahoo and another relative Tripurari Sahoo.
While Duryodhan Sahoo and Uma Sahoo were the main conspirators and the main accused in the case, Kunti Sahoo was arrested in connection with a case in 2004. Police were investigating into the matter to find out Kunti’s involvement in this case, police said.
It may be mentioned that Hemant Sahoo was hacked to death at Bahira village under Baunsuni police station limits in Boudh district on Tuesday morning. Sahoo was attacked with sharp weapons by some assailants while he was on a morning walk. A profusely bleeding Hemant succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Notably, the deceased was also a former block president of district BJP and was also the convenor of the party district unit legal cell.
Lawyers across the state have called for a cease work yesterday demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of Hemant Sahoo. The judicial activities across the state were badly hit due to the state-wide stir.
Police suspect past enmity over a land dispute to be the motive behind the gruesome murder of the young lawyer.
According to sources, the deceased was a prosecution witness in the 2004 murder of his uncle.
