Berhamapur: Two more police personnel in Odisha have tested positive for COVID-19. The two cops- Chhatrapur SDPO and Inspector In Charge (IIC) of Chhatrapur police station, are among 11 corona warriors of Ganjam who have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, informed the district administration.
"In the line of duty, our two COVID warriors-SDPO Chhatrapur and IIC Chhatrapur-have tested COVID positive . We wish their speedy recovery. Inspired by their services, we take this fight against COVID with great zeal to save our citizens from the disease," said the SP.
Sources said the district administration will shortly declare the police station as containment zone. Besides, contact tracing and followup action has already begun.
In the last 24 hours, 20 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the district taking the total count to 678. Of the 20 cases, nine are locals contacts (Chhatrapur: 4 , Patrapur: 2, Chikiti: 1, Bhanjanajar: 1, Aska: 1), who had come in contact with positive patients.
While the number of total active cases in the district stands at 128, 545 patients have recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, five COVID patients have died due to the virus.
Earlier, a Havildar of Motu border check post in Malkangiri tested positive for coronavirus, informed district Collector Manish Agarwal yesterday. After detection of the case, Inspector In-Charge (IIC) along with other staff of Motu Police Station were instructed to remain under home quarantine.
