Two newborn girls found abandoned in Odisha

Balasore: At a time when the Government is promoting ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, situation of girl children in Odisha seems to be vulnerable. Reportedly, two newborn girls were found abandoned at two separate places of Balasore and Gajapati districts in the last 24 hours.

In Balasore, a newborn girl was rescued from a bridge at Usmania near Salabani village late last night.

Sources said one Arati Singh, a local woman, first spotted the baby lying on bridge at around 12.15 AM and rescued her. She later informed two Ward members of the village about the matter. They called up an ambulance and sent her to district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment.

In a separate incident, a newborn girl was rescued from a forest at Adaba village in Gajapati district this morning. A few locals, who had gone to the forest to graze their cattle, spotted the baby and rushed her to a nearby hospital. After preliminary treatment, she was later shifted to a hospital in Mohana.

The condition of the baby girl is stable now and she will be handed over to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after necessary formalities, said a doctor.
