Two Odisha cops arrested for poaching barking deer

Baripada: Taking stringent action against illegal poaching, forest officials today arrested two police personnel while they were hunting barking deer inside Similipal National Park.

The two cops-Purnachandra Madhei and Hemanta Mohanty-  are posted at Sahadevkuntha  police station as Constables.

Acting on a tipoff, Similipal forest officials conducted a raid and arrested the two when the were poaching a female barking deer with a gun. They also seized the gun and a knife from their possession.

A five-member team, including an IFS officer are questioning the arrested cops in connection with the incident.  Four to five teams have been formed to check illegal poaching in the area, sources said.
