Two Odisha MLAs among 136 test COVID-19 positive ahead of Assembly session

Bhubaneswar: Two Odisha MLAs including Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallick among 136 others tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly, an official source informed today.

Surprisingly, MLA Debi Prasad Mishra has been found positive for the deadly virus for the second time in a few past weeks. Earlier, he was under home quarantine after being detected with Coronavirus positive.

Besides, some journalists, who were to attend the session,  and PSOs, drivers of MLAs as well as a few Assembly staff have also tested positive for the virus.

Total 757 people had undergone RT-PCR test on premises of Odisha Assembly yesterday to detect COVID-19 ahead of monsoon session, of which test result of 136 came out positive today.

Of 757, 20 MLAs including Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro had given their samples for the test. The test began at 8.30 am on Saturday and the samples were collected by 5.49 pm.

Earlier, the BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary had informed that around 900 people will undergo test for three days starting from September 26 in the Legislative Assembly before commencement of monsoon session of the House scheduled on September 29.
