Two Odisha youth taking selfie slip into waterfall, die

Bargarh: Craze for clicking risky selfies proved costly for two youth as they lost their lives after slipping into a waterfall in Bargarh district of Odisha.

The fire services personnel recovered the bodies of the youth. The deceased have been identified as Papu Mahakud (18) and Khirod Soni (20) of Jhipiki village under Paikmal Police Station in Bargarh district.

According to reports, Papu, Khirod and their another friend had visited Kapildhara waterfall in Nrusinghnath, a famous tourist destination in Odisha, situated about 15 km away from their village, on Thursday despite COVID-19 restriction. After reaching the spot, two friends duo Papu and Khirod looked for the place for perfect selfie shot. Reportedly, they slipped into the waterfall while taking selfie standing on a huge rock.

On receiving information, a firefighting team and police rushed to the spot and recovered two bodies.

It is to be mentioned that Kapildhara waterfall was overflowing with water due to incessant rain under impact of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. Also, the Nrusinghnath temple is closed for visitors due to COVID-19 pandemic. Despite rain and closure of road to the temple, the three youngsters had reached the waterfall through a remote route on a motorcycle for selfie.
