Bhubaneswar, Oct 27:

Commissionerate Police today arrested the two prime accused – Bhagirathi Das alias ‘Biju’ and Mithun Das – from near Baramunda bus stand in the Odisha capital while they were trying to board a bus to escape from the city.

The two accused had gone underground soon after the murder of a betel shop owner Bhagaban Sahoo of Bharatpur basti under Khandagiri police limits.

On Sunday, three associates of Biju and Mithun – Sunil Das, Bira Patra and Rajesh Das – were arrested and forwarded to a local court here.

Khandagiri police said on receipt of reliable information, police personnel swung into action and nabbed both the prime accused near Baramunda bus stand while they were trying to catch a bus to leave Bhubaneswar.

Both the accused persons have been forwarded to a local court here today. Further investigation in the case is in progress, local police said.

The five arrested accused had brutally assaulted Bhagaban, his son Alok Sahoo and Alok’s brother-in-law Rinku Sahoo with wooden planks, and lathi, killing Bhagaban and causing severe injuries to the other two, over Alok’s refusal to give them a bottle of drinking water on October 23 night.

Bhagaban Sahoo had succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Capital hospital here for treatment.

Alok and Rinku are undergoing treatment at SUM hospital in the city now.
