Two persons were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years by a local court today in Odisha’s Silk City for illegal transportation of ganja about four years ago.
The court of Additional District Judge Rekha Prasad convicted Shatrughan Dalai of Badiamba village in Gajapati district and Manoj Swain of Begunia in Khurda district under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act before pronouncing the sentence.
In addition to the jail term the court imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on each of them.
According to the proceedings records of the case, the two were arrested on April 26, 2012, by Excise department sleuths while they were transporting ganja in a car near Maluabhanja Chaka on Taptapani-Digaphandi Road. About 285 kilos of ganja was seized from their possession.
