Two teachers suspended over gangrape of schoolgirl in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Bhubaneswar: Two teachers accused of gangraping a Class-VI girl in a residential school in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district were placed under suspension by the state government today.

The police had earlier arrested school headmaster Suchendra Chandra Biswas and assistant teacher Keshab Majhi in connection with the incident.

The two teachers were placed under suspension by the Collector and District Magistrate of Nabarangpur in accordance with an order issued by the SC&ST Development department of the state government, sources said.

According to police, the two teachers allegedly gangraped the girl after luring her to a toilet block on the premises of the educational institute in Raighar area of Nabarangpur during school hours on November 7.

However, the incident came to light when the girl’s family lodged a complaint in this regard with Kundei police on November 9.

The police arrested the two teachers and produced them in a local court after registering a case in this regard yesterday (November 10). The accused duo was later sent to the judicial custody.

“The girl is now undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital. We have recorded her statement. We have sought the permission of the court to take the accused teachers on remand for 15 days,” said a police officer.
