Two teaching hospitals to come up in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet today approved a proposal on construction of teaching hospitals for two new medical colleges in Balasore and Balangir districts to improve medical education.

As per the decision, the two teaching hospitals with having 500 beds each, a service block, medical gases pipeline system and ESS building external works will be built for new government medical colleges at Balasore and Balangir.

The proposed hospitals will be constructed on basis of PI tender at expenses of over Rs 286 crore in order to improve medical education and to cater to the needs of qualified doctors to widespread health institutions, the Works Department stated in a release today.

The construction work for the teaching hospitals will be carried out by Iron Triangle Ltd at total expenditure of 142,45,97,555 and Rs 144,98,91,421 for medical colleges at Balangir and Balasore respectively.

The projects will be completed within a period of two and half years.

Besides, the cabinet also approved a proposal on providing the government land on lease in Mouza-Bankual under Bhubaneswar Tehsil in favour of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan free of premium and incidental charges, but subject to payment of Re 1 per annum towards ground rent and cess for establishment of Zonal Institute of Education & Training at Bankual.

The government also decided for execution of Rs 149.12 crore-rural water supply project to provide safe drinking water in Balasore district under state plan ‘Basudha’ funding. A total of 90,219 people of 90 villages under 17 GPs of Nilgiri block in the district will be provided safe drinking water after execution of the project that is expected to be completed within a period of 24 months.

Moreover, a proposal on disbursing payment to farmers was given the cabinet nod at the meeting chaired by Naveen Patnaik at Lok Seva Bhawan today. As per the move, the dues will be cleared online through DBT mode within 24 to 48 hours of sale of the paddy crop. The inclusion of women SHGs apart from PACS and LAMPS in paddy procurement were also approved by the cabinet.
