DSP PK Bagh said the two were identified as Gita Kunjami (25) alias Jamuna of Badigata in Kalimela area and Saita Pangi (22) of Chitrakonda area.

He said while Jamuna had worked as an area committee member of Kalimela Maoist Dalam since 2007, Saita had joined the rebel outfit in 2012. Both the women had undergone training in handling of different weapons, he said.

Police sources said Maoists had persuaded these women to join their organization after being impressed by their creative skills in acting and used them to attract others into their fold through cultural activities.

These women, however, decided to quit the organisation and return to the social mainstream after they were disillusioned following torture and harassment by senior ultras, police said
